Great interview. I like that it's nuts and bolts and pragmatic rather than theoretical and oblivious to risks and rewards.

These folks were not just theologians promulgating a new faith, but people earning a living and recognizing a pay-what-you-direct plan as a successful component of achieving that.

At the same time, they recognized why this model may suit them better than another.

I do agree that the record companies ought to be relieved that they don't have to figure out what to do with interesting new artists, as they've seem so very baffled by so many bands over the past 20 years or so.

I agree- although I remember reading a comment on the article remarking on the focus on the business aspects, rather than the music, I didn't recall the interview being promoted as an in-depth analysis of the album; it was interesting to hear simultaneous admissions of "not trying to be revolutionaries" with the Internet release, yet also note some self-conscious mention of "carbon footprints" etc. Apparently much income is still derived from touring...
