Playlists are live

go gettem, make 'em just don't break 'em

now I'm off to see if I can dig up my original projects from the last two years and re-sample down to 44k (the freakin Flash doesn't play 48k MP3s)

I have to admit as flattered as I am about having a tune on the home page. I think having it autoplay is kind of annoying. Or is that just me?

I'll be woking on a playlist soon. : )

Great work on the playlist feature (as usual). There are interesting directions that could go. Ideas:
- allow people listening to a playlist to select tracks to add to their own playlist(s) - I first thought of allowing full list copy, but that would be a bit much
- [similar to Pandora thumbs down] allow people to flag tracks as "I never want to hear this track again", and then they wouldn't be played on a playlist play even if on the list

Anyway, re: the other recent discussion, I agree this in addition to the thumbs up / thumbs down concept will orient a track's "ratings" to be just "how much do people like listening to this song?" - people will gripe about losing their stars, but in the long run, I think this will be better. Thanks to the ccM team for putting their hearts and talents into this work, for holding the line on what they think is right, and for softly (or not so softly) shunning bad ideas, some of which have been from me :). By the way, when is the geo thing happening?

Hey, other ideas:
- maybe make the song that plays by default random (or even a random song that has never been rated in any way)
- offer ability to not have music play automatically when you go to the site (not everybody likes that - my wife hates sites that do that, for example)
- once there are enough playlists and thumbs up in the system, make visible something like, "people who like this song also like...."

already do that (just not in the popup window)

"I never want to hear this track again"

heh, 'thumbs down' eh? good one for future features (like after the bugs are fixed)

people will gripe about losing their stars

sometimes it's good to have 'feel good' features, I would just not weigh the rating very much when calculating the 'score' of the track.

song that plays by default random

it will be, er, semi random. probably an ed pick.

not have music play automatically

I turned that off early this morning, if it's still playing then refresh your browser (or it's broken)

people who like this song also like

at some point you'll be able to see all the playlists a particular song is in, effectively doing what you suggest.

when is the geo thing happening

when you write it dude ;)
