Remixfight.

Remixfight doesn't get mentioned enough. Our good friend MC Jack in the Box is a regular there. Another Mixter, Futureboy, who I remember from way back maintains the site. If you're in the neighborhood, say hi. It's a great site.

Currently at Remixfight - fight #0060: NIN - Me, I’m Not

thanks for the plug teru, and i hope to hear your NIN remix as well! i was planning on taking a break but this is pretty hard to resist.

there's some great source for this round, and i know there's lots of great ccmixter producers who could spin it their own way, so jump in!

there's no prizes but the fleeting fame and glory of winning a meaningless contest, and the love and appreciation of your peers. :)

just so no one is confused: remixfight was the inspiration for ccMixter

And there are *lots* of shared remixers with different names between the two site.

It's a cool site. If I had any madskillz, I'd certainly play there. Heck, maybe I'll play there anyway.

although they are a matter of subjective opinion, madskillz are not required. i'd actually be very interested in seeing what you of all people would come up with for this

it's been a while since I've been there (shame on me) but you have to admit the 'winning' remixing are rarely (ever?) commended for their subtlety -- which is what Bob's music is all about...

I've come to think of it, perhaps unfairly, as: mixter is what happens when remixfight gets married and has kids -- for all the good & evil that implies.

futureboy arranged for remixfight to host 'december' csong and they results were fantastic. a great throw-down all round.

I've heard some fun mixes over there before, and especially now that I've given it a long set of listens as I work. I'm pleased to see not only Calendargirl's fine work, but also Clutter/Ann Wilson, the Earth Monkey/Talking Monkey folks who do great music and spoken word stuff and make Barrow Island safe for CC.

I am not much of a "contest winner" type, because so many mixers are so much better at production, mixing, beat and pitch matching than I am. But I will enter a remix fight soon, as it's a good place.

as victor said bob, your mixes are not about showing off "madskillz" but subtlety. you've always been one of my favorite mixter producers for this reason, that you are unique and different than all the wanna be hip hoppers, and frankly you're ok with that. and i'm glad for that.

like the old adage goes, it's not the notes you play but the space between them. and i hope you do participate! like i said, i'd love to see how you'd turn someone as bipolar to your style as NIN.

I say: bob submits a ONE NOTE remix and we flood the crap out of the voting...

That's great, Victor, positively subversive. I've got some heavy work things this week, but perhaps I'll do the NIN thing. NIN is not much at all like what I do, but I have a soft spot in my heart for it because Reznor is influenced by so many bands I love. But I promise that my Nin remix will not sound much like NIN.

To take off from the discussion, some folks fret that "that's not really remixing, it's only mashup or cut-up or looping", as if they were the one true church of "what is a remix". I tend the other way--I'm not as "real" a remixer as others, but I love to play with sound. It would be difficult, for example, for me to do justice to a calendargirl song, as much as I like her work, because the pitch matching is tricky for me. OTOH, I could easily take calendargirl, sample her into a synth, and then write a symphony around her, and that's fun, too, even if it's not "really remixing". I also find myself less interested in seeing mixes as mixes than as props for youtubes or podcasts or what have you. I like that while the ordinary mixter track gets podcast as a featured "great mix" song, my own tends to be intro and extro to talk shows :)

Well, one note or many, whether NIN or the next one, you've convinced me, Mr. MC Jack in the Box, that I want to join the fun at remixfight.
