Microsoft to MicroPayments: F*CK YOU

Looks like micro-sharing-payment scheme Weedshare is shut down by incompatibility in new Windows Media Player.

Incompatibility?

From Gizmodo back in Nov. 2006.

according to my sources anyway.

There are one of two scenarios that work and I saw both played out lots of time when I worked at msft: 1) Weedshare got caught up in a deliberate "embrace and exterminate" tactic either as a victim of cross-feifdom rivalry or other cross-purpose strategy or 2) simple, stupid incompetence in the Media Player group simply didn't bother with compat testing against Weedshare.

In either case the result is the same: F*ck u.

The most reputable source I could find. Register. Yeah that's right the Register. ;)

not to be ..paranoid..but maybe msft is coming up with their own "weedshare"..to which certain previous things would be sorta..incompatible...$$$ wise.

this is the risk when adding DRM to files. ever tried to open an iTunes song in Ableton Live for example.

DRM is a serious music-killer.
