Mixoffs on ccMixter?

Seems there a movement afoot to have mixoffs at ccMixter. Do we think this is a good idea?

I tend to favor it since it is coming from the community, not top down.

[UPDATE]
Feel free to jump into the discussion so I know what to code

I say anything from ccMixter is game and even encourage "crate digging" in the archives. Its funny because I've been browsing some of the older stuff and it sounds brand new again and a lot of stuff I completely missed!!! So there's plenty of source material to choose from and maybe this will work out to help self-promote the site and tunes that didn't get a lot of listens might start to spring up. That is if you can convey the "challenge" in text to really make it feel competitive or inspired. At least thats where I stand.

I agree with your reasoning, Victor--anything the site grows organically that adds to the enthusiasm is good. To me, mix-offs are a bit, well, not my thing. But "battles of the band" and "mixoffs" and competitions are as old as music, and if they grow organically, that's a good thing.

I hear you g, this is definitely not a feature I would have come up with or even pushed, but I rationalize by comparing it to all the great jazz legends that battled improvs. Some of the best spontaneous composition ever created by humans happened under just those conditions. I'll hold my nose and think of those giants and forget that American Idol ever existed.
