CC salon Wednesday night

The second Creative Commons salon is this coming Wednesday, April 12 2006, at 1337 Mission St, San Francisco, CA.

Background info on Creative Commons salons from the Creative Commmons Salon Wiki

The CC Salon is a monthly event focused on building a community of artists and developers around Creative Commons licenses, standards, and technology. The first event is set for San Francisco with intention for the idea to replicate in other locations internationally.

The format for each event is to encourage loose networking amongst participants with 2-3 brief presentations from individuals and groups developing interesting projects that relate to the Creative Commons.

Here's the schedule:

  • 6:00-7:00 - Drinks, conversation, and music
  • 7:00-7:05 - Welcome
  • 7:00-7:15 - First presentation: James Polanco, http://www.fakescience.com, podcasting and fakescience music label

  • 7:15-7:30 - Second presentation: ?
  • 7:30-7:45 - Third presentation: Lucas Gonze, http://webjay.org/, http://gonze.com/weblog/ (45 min), "How the Net is Changing Music"
    • A structured conversation about the unique features of net-native music.

  • 7:45-8:00 - Wrap-up, questions, etc.
  • 8:00-9:00 - More drinks, conversation, and music (provided by Minus Kelvin)

For my own part in this, I plan to have an open but purposeful conversation (rather than a block of narrated slides) on the question of what a blog musician might be. What is the difference between music on a blog and music which is of of a blog?

fwiw, the first salon was packed to the rafters and a great crowd.

unfortunately I will be in LA exactly that night so I'm going to have to miss this one.... but I highly recommend it to anyone near the bay area.

video? I would love to check out what's going on. I am involved in many interesting projects here in Holland, so information is always helpful.

San Francisco sounds like a great hippy trip to me... but time and money is tricky for me so... video please... or audio-stream + photo's :)

dr conconction: do he-chicks count?

fourstones: very sorry to hear it! I was really hoping to get your involvement, but this is especially bitter because I will be in SF from LA exactly that night.

marco: a great idea. I could hook up an iChat session pretty easily, though this would only capture one person at a time. Do you have interoperable software? (I remember thinking of SF per its 60s reputation when I paid my first visit there, from Boston, about five years ago. It is indeed that, as well as the gay and dot-com meccas. A really excellent city in a lot of ways.)

Sounds interesting!

Someday one of my SF business trips will coincide with one of your CC salons. otherwise, I'll have to hold one in Texas.

Postscript:

This was a good time.

Surreal highlight: Minus Kelvin spinning a Fourstones creation that I was painfully over-familiar with as a result of using it to practice chopping up a source into loopable segments.

Overall, it is very weird and cool to hear Mixter stuff in a club.

Great to know about this CC salon Wednesday night. Recently I was invited to a salon’s first ceremony party at one of San Francisco event venues. There found amazing arrangements and had a haircut also that was given free on the day. Had a lovely time there.
